Last year I took the summer off to finish a book. It worked. Wisconsin Watershed: Tony Earl and the New Democratic Party will be published by Michigan State University Press later this year.
I enjoyed that project so much that my plan is to try to finish a book every year for as long as I can. So, I want to spend the summer developing book proposals, submitting them to publishers and, I hope, getting to work in earnest on one that catches on.
But in order to accomplish that, like last summer, I’m going to step back from the blog for about three months. I find that I have about three or four hours of good writing time in the morning. After lunch I’m pretty much useless for this kind of work. So, as much as I enjoy writing the YSDA blog, I can’t do both. I have to make a choice between using my best writing hours on the blog or a book.

The upshot is that once again this year I’ll see you in September — but with one twist. There’s a Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor in August. I can’t resist that, so you might find an occasional blog on that race as things develop. And, like last year, I’ll keep the News Feed landing page current.
Thanks so much for reading. Have a great summer. And I’ll see you back here right after Labor Day.
ENJOY AND GOOD LUCK!

Great decision. I should do the same. I’ve had a book partly done for three years. We will miss your screeds.
