Speaker Robin Vos (R-Burlington) talked with reporters today from a truck stop in Georgia promising he’d be back home, “on Friday. Saturday at the latest. Maybe Sunday.”
Vos was invited to fly with former Pres. Donald Trump on Trump’s private jet to a rally in Alabama on Saturday. But Vos first had to drive to Florida to meet Trump’s plane. Then, after the rally, Vos was left at the airport without a way to get home or back to his car at Mar a Lago.
“Look, it’s my fault,” Vos told reporters. “I just assumed it would be a round trip with the President. And you know what they say about the word ‘assume’. It just makes an ‘ass’ out of U’ and and an ‘ass’ out of ‘ME'”.

Vos said he was on the first leg of a hitchhiking trip back to his car in Florida. “It’s been a bit of circuitous route. But I’ve hooked up this Wal-Mart truck driver on his way home to Talahasee. From there it’s just another six hours down to Mar a Lago, assuming I can find a ride, which should be a cinch. And then, of course, it’s a 21 hour drive back to Wisconsin. Easy peasy.”
Vos was invited on the plane ride so that Trump could talk to him about Republican investigations into the November election in Wisconsin, where Trump lost by 20,000 votes. Numerous court challenges have been dismissed and recounts in Dane and Milwaukee counties showed that the initial results were accurate. Only two cases of potential voter fraud have been referred to prosecutors out of 3.3 million votes cast.
“It was a great honor to be invited to fly with President Trump, even just one way,” said Vos. “I mean can Janel Brandtjen say that she was left on the tarmac in Cullman, Alabama by Donald Trump? I don’t think so,”
