Part of me wanted Joe Biden to implode last night. On Monday I wrote that I felt bad about hoping that Biden would perform so poorly at his debate with Donald Trump that the party would be forced to look for a new standard bearer. And now that it has happened I do feel badContinue reading “Biden Must Go Now”

WI Voters Shrug at Trump Convictions
There’s a new Marquette Law School poll out. Let’s dive in. Lack of conviction. The poll provides still more evidence that the conviction of Donald Trump on 34 felony charges last month has made no difference whatsoever, despite what you might have heard on MSNBC. Trump and Biden are almost exactly where they were inContinue reading “WI Voters Shrug at Trump Convictions”
Bowman Bows Out, Boebert Remains
Yesterday was a good day for moderation. New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman was soundly defeated in a Democratic primary by moderate George Latimer. Bowman is a proud member of “The Squad,” a group of hard-left House members that includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib and others. He is the first ofContinue reading “Bowman Bows Out, Boebert Remains”
Idiot Protesters
At a golf tournament in Connecticut last Sunday two of the world’s top pros line up their putts on the 18th green with the tournament in the balance. Golf fans lean toward their TV sets. Then climate protesters charge the green, disrupting the moment. Millions of golf fans shout, “Honey, come in here! Brave climateContinue reading “Idiot Protesters”
My Predictions For the Debate
Here’s the YSDA take on the big debate coming up this Thursday evening. The debate. The big debate. Trump v. Biden. No, I know, they haven’t even officially been nominated yet. Yes, I know the election isn’t until November. Yeah, it’s summer. I know the weather is nice. And, yes, I also know that yourContinue reading “My Predictions For the Debate”
Odd Angles
Today we’re going to inaugurate a new Sunday feature here at YSDA. We’ll call it Odd Angles. As I take my frequent walks around Madison, it’s not the usual stuff — the Capitol or Bascom Hill — that I find most interesting. It’s stuff, usually in close up, that most people wouldn’t stop to appreciateContinue reading “Odd Angles”
The Q&Q For 6/22/24
This week’s quote comes to us from none other than New York City chef Joseph Yoon. According to an AP story, Yoon spent nine days in Illinois collecting, freezing and then bagging tens of thousands of cicadas. After getting back home, he served up tempura cicada to 400 people at a Syracuse University event. YoonContinue reading “The Q&Q For 6/22/24”
Reviewing the Ten Commandments
The great state of Louisiana has mandated that a copy of the Ten Commandments be placed in each public school classroom in the state. Like you, I’m concerned about what kinds of stuff our kids are reading these days, so I thought I’d brush up on the document. Here, with insightful YSDA commentary, are thoseContinue reading “Reviewing the Ten Commandments”
Biden and What Might Have Been
What if Joe Biden had been able to put his ego aside? What if he actually became what he promised to be — a transitional rather than transformational figure, a president who would restore normalcy and rebuild the guard rails destroyed by his predecessor? And most importantly, what if he had committed to serve onlyContinue reading “Biden and What Might Have Been”
A Bump Stock Silver Lining
I think the Supreme Court was wrong about bump stocks. But, if Donald Trump is reelected, we might have reason to celebrate their ruling anyway. Last week the SCOTUS conservative majority ruled against a Trump era policy banning bump stocks. They did not say that there was a Second Amendment right to these damn things.Continue reading “A Bump Stock Silver Lining”
