Disbar the Fake Electors

The lawyers who were among the 10 fake electors in Wisconsin should lose their law licenses.

Yesterday Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul finally got around to charging three of the Wisconsin 10 with one felony forgery count each. You can read the complaint here. Why he did it now, five months before the next election, is something he’s going to have to explain because it feeds charges that the move was more political than legal.

That’s unfortunate because what the 10 did was outrageous, bordering on treason. They knew full well that Biden won Wisconsin fair and square and on the very day that they took their illegal action they knew that the Wisconsin Supreme Court had blocked the Trump campaign’s desperate attempt to get it to overturn the results.

In fact, they knew it was all a scam to undercut the legitimately elected new president, Joe Biden. Two of the three charged — lawyers Jim Troupis and Kenneth Chesebro — met secretly with Trump in the Oval Office to conspire with others to overturn the election. Chesebro told another fake elector in an email that, while it was unlikely that their effort would succeed, the Electoral College count could be “weaponized” to put Biden in a “no-win” situation.” In fact, apparently the whole scheme to put up fake electors was hatched in Wisconsin.

If convicted the three face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. I doubt seriously that they’ll get any prison time and even the full fine is not likely to hurt much for these guys. But what would hurt them very much is to lose their ability to practice law.

So, regardless of how this case proceeds, Troupis and Chesebro (the third defendant, Michael Roman, is not a lawyer) should be disbarred as should any of the remaining seven fake electors who are attorneys. Anyone can file a grievance through the Office of Lawyer Regulation, but I would hope that qualified attorneys, say from the liberal law firm Law Forward, would take this on. They already settled a civil case against the 10 in which the conspirators admitted that Biden did, in fact, win the election.

And one final ironic note. Sen. Ron Johnson had this to say about Kaul’s charges: “Democrats are turning America into a banana republic.” So, let me get this straight. Ten Republicans, knowing full well that Biden had won the election, came up with a scam to pretend to act as legal electors to try and overturn the results of a free and fair election. But it’s Democrats who are turning our nation into a banana republic?

Troupis, Chesebro and any other lawyer who pretended to be a legitimate elector should be disbarred. Johnson should be recognized for the idiot that he is.
