The Heroic Ten

Donald Trump’s second impeachment ranks as the most bipartisan among the four impeachment votes in American history.

Still, ten Republican votes for impeachment is hardly a landslide. And in a party that Trump still owns until further notice, voting for impeachment took courage. You might assume that the ten all come from districts that Joe Biden won or that Trump won narrowly. Not so. Half represent districts that Trump won overwhelmingly with 57% or more of the vote.

Here, in order of Trump’s percentage of the 2020 vote in their districts, are the ten heroic Republicans.

Rep. Liz Cheney

Rep. Liz Cheney (WY), the third most powerful Republican in the House.

Rep. Tom Rice (SC 7th).

Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA 4th).

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL 16th). Kinzinger has said he’s acquiring body armor because he fears for his life.

Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (OH 16th).

Rep. Fred Upton (MI 6th).

Rep. Jaime Herrera Butler (WA 3rd).

Rep. Peter Meijer (MI 3rd).

Rep. John Katko (NY 24th).

Rep. David Valadao (CA 21st).

Of these only Valadao represents a district that Biden won. You can bet that these members are hearing from Trump’s most unhinged supporters right now. Amazingly, 85% of Republicans oppose impeachment and Republicans were evenly split on support and opposition to the violent insurrection in a poll taken the evening it happened.

So, you might want to send some or all of these representatives a note of thanks for their courage. Their offices can be contacted through this site.
