The Q&Q For 7/27/24

This week’s quote comes to us from none other than newly minted GOP Veeper J.D. Vance

In a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson he said that top Democrats — Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez — were:

“A bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” This week he clarified: “Obviously, it was a sarcastic comment. I’ve got nothing against cats.”

  1. It has now become clear why Donald Trump chose Vance to join him on the ticket:

A) He improves their chances to win in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

B) He represents a new generation that can carry on Trump’s transformation of the Republicans into a blue collar populist party.

C) As a best-selling author and Yale Law School grad, he can articulate his party’s views better than most.

D) He makes Trump look sane, dignified and compassionate in comparison.

2. Despite Vance’s charge, which of the following is true?

A) Pete Buttigieg and his husband do, in fact, have children.

B) Kamala Harris has step children who adore her.

C) Alexandria Ocasio Cortez may yet have children.

D) When they’re old enough, J.D. Vance’s children may want a name change.

3. Given their public personas and their policies, which of the following actually seems to be miserable with their own life and eager to make everyone else miserable too?

A) Kamala Harris.

B) Pete Buittigieg.

C) Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

D) Donald Trump.

4. In response to Vance’s comments, Puffball, President of the League of American House Cats, had this to say:

A) “The LAHC will be selling J.D. Vance scratching posts with all proceeds going to the Harris campaign.”

B) “Almost a third of American households boast a cat as a family member. They’ll be hearing from us. Kiss your ass goodbye, Vance.”

C) “If Vance repeatedly finds dead mice in his shoes, we had nothing to do with it. This just happens sometimes.”

D) “Let me make what I believe to be an apt analogy. When our members use a litter box we cover up the shit. Vance just leaves it out there in the open.”

5. When his nomination was announced many commentators thought that Vance would appeal to blue collar voters while also sanding off some of Trump’s rough edges. Now, it’s clear that this was:

A) A brilliant move to double down on Trump’s base and squeeze out every vote.

B) A brilliant move to appeal to traditional suburban voters.

C) A brilliant move to appeal to evangelical Christian voters.

D) Cause for Yale to review its admissions standards.

6. According a Pew research study, the percentage of American adults under 50 who don’t have kids and don’t intend to have children is:

A) 27%

B) 37%

C) 47%

D) 57%

7. Most Americans find Vance’s comments to be:

A) Disrespectful of people who make a deeply personal choice for their own reasons in a free country.

B) Unfeeling to couples who want children but are unable to have them.

C) Unfeeling to lonely people who find solace in a beloved pet.

D) Just incredibly stupid (see answer 5.D. above).
