This week’s quote comes to us from pro golfer Keegan Bradley who, in reacting to a new USGA rule that will make golf balls fly shorter distances, said:
“For the amateur world to hit the ball shorter is monstrous. I can’t think of anything more stupid than that.”
- The new rules won’t go into effect until 2028 for the pros and for everybody else in 2030. How much less will the less flighty balls fly?
A) 20 – 25 yards.

D) He can now buy his fifth new driver in five years on the promise by the manufacturer that it is designed like a finely tuned sports car to “make up for that shorter ball and then some, and with more accuracy!” He will ignore the old saw about one of his kind being born every minute.

I admire Keegan Bradley. Competitive as hell and takes nothing for granted. In an interview last summer he stated “Every shot I hit is difficult”. He’s one of us!
This change may have unintended consequences in the pro game. As for amateurs most are already playing a ball that limits their distance. Hint: switch to a softer ball.
