Welcome to a new Friday feature here at YSDA, The Quote & Quiz, wherein we grab our favorite quote from the previous week and test your knowledge of facts surrounding it.
This week our quote comes from Dan Campbell, third year coach of the hapless Detroit Lions, who are actually favored by many to win the North Division this year. For most teams the season gets underway on Sunday, but the Lions opened last night against the Chiefs and beat what many consider the best team in the league on their home turf. Even before that impressive victory, Campbell said,
“I feel the wind beneath my freakin’ wings, man.”

- The phrase about wind and wings was first coined in:
A) 1975 when it appeared on calligraphy that could be purchased on the UW Library Mall.
B) 1988 when it was the title of a popular song recorded by Bette Midler.
C) 1992 when it was used by candidate Bill Clinton in a speech about Hope, Arkansas.
D) 1994 when a writer in Hallmark’s Fondness Card Division came up with it to pair with a picture of a bald eagle.
2. If you use the phrase “wind beneath my wings” without irony you must be:
A) Divorced by your spouse.
B) Required to complete a ten step program designed to flush this stuff from your system.
C) Asked to leave the room and never return.
D) Forced to explain exactly why it is that the other person is merely the wind while you have the wings.
3. The Lions are one of only four NFL teams never to have so much as made it to a Super Bowl, much less won one. Which of the following teams is NOT in that pathetic list along with the Lions?
A) The Houston Texans.
B) The Cleveland Browns.
C) The Jacksonville Jaguars.
D) The Arizona Cardinals.
4. Who was President the last time the Lions won their division?
A) Franklin Roosevelt.
B) Lyndon Johnson.
C) Bill Clinton.
D) Barack Obama.
5. If you’re a Green Bay Packer fan and the Lions win the division, the correct attitude to take is:
A) Hey, at least it’s not the Bears or the Vikings.
B) We’ve already won our share of championships and what city needs this more than Detroit? Ok, Cleveland. But beyond Cleveland then?
C) Ya know, I’ve always kind of thought their uniforms were cool anyway.
D) I like teams that play on Thanksgiving and this isn’t the Cowboys.
